Ιακωβου 1
1 ιακωβοσ θεου και κυριου ιησου χριστου δουλοσ ταισ δωδεκα φυλαισ ταισ εν τη διασπορα χαιρειν
JAMES, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are dispersed, greeting.
2 πασαν χαραν ηγησασθε αδελφοι μου οταν πειρασμοισ περιπεσητε ποικιλοισ
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into various trials;
3 γινωσκοντεσ οτι το δοκιμιον υμων τησ πιστεωσ κατεργαζεται υπομονην
knowing that the proof of your faith produceth patience.
4 η δε υπομονη εργον τελειον εχετω ινα ητε τελειοι και ολοκληροι εν μηδενι λειπομενοι
But let patience have its work perfected, that ye may be perfect and complete, deficient in nothing.
5 ει δε τισ υμων λειπεται σοφιασ αιτειτω παρα του διδοντοσ θεου πασιν απλωσ και ουκ ονειδιζοντοσ και δοθησεται αυτω
But if any man of you be deficient in wisdom, let him ask it of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him.
6 αιτειτω δε εν πιστει μηδεν διακρινομενοσ ο γαρ διακρινομενοσ εοικεν κλυδωνι θαλασσησ ανεμιζομενω και ριπιζομενω
But let him ask in faith, harbouring no doubt: for he who is doubtful is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind, and in constant agitation.
7 μη γαρ οιεσθω ο ανθρωποσ εκεινοσ οτι ληψεται τι παρα του κυριου
For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing from the Lord.
8 ανηρ διψυχοσ ακαταστατοσ εν πασαισ ταισ οδοισ αυτου
A double-minded man is unsteady in all his ways.
9 καυχασθω δε ο αδελφοσ ο ταπεινοσ εν τω υψει αυτου
Let the brother low in station rejoice in his elevation:
10 ο δε πλουσιοσ εν τη ταπεινωσει αυτου οτι ωσ ανθοσ χορτου παρελευσεται
but the rich, in his abasement: for as the flower of grass he shall pass away.
11 ανετειλεν γαρ ο ηλιοσ συν τω καυσωνι και εξηρανεν τον χορτον και το ανθοσ αυτου εξεπεσεν και η ευπρεπεια του προσωπου αυτου απωλετο ουτωσ και ο πλουσιοσ εν ταισ πορειαισ αυτου μαρανθησεται
For the sun arose with fervour, and burnt up the grass, and the flower of it fell off, and the beauty of its appearance was lost: just so the rich man in his course of life shall wither away.
12 μακαριοσ ανηρ οσ υπομενει πειρασμον οτι δοκιμοσ γενομενοσ ληψεται τον στεφανον τησ ζωησ ον επηγγειλατο ο κυριοσ τοισ αγαπωσιν αυτον
Blessed is the man who patiently supports temptation: for when he is proved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to those who love him.
13 μηδεισ πειραζομενοσ λεγετω οτι απο θεου πειραζομαι ο γαρ θεοσ απειραστοσ εστιν κακων πειραζει δε αυτοσ ουδενα
Let no man under temptation say, I am tempted of God: for God is incapable of temptation from evils, and he tempteth no man:
14 εκαστοσ δε πειραζεται υπο τησ ιδιασ επιθυμιασ εξελκομενοσ και δελεαζομενοσ
but every person is tempted, when by his own peculiar passion he is born away, and ensnared.
15 ειτα η επιθυμια συλλαβουσα τικτει αμαρτιαν η δε αμαρτια αποτελεσθεισα αποκυει θανατον
Then passion impregnated, bringeth forth sin, and sin reaching its consummation, bringeth forth death.
16 μη πλανασθε αδελφοι μου αγαπητοι
Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.
17 πασα δοσισ αγαθη και παν δωρημα τελειον ανωθεν εστιν καταβαινον απο του πατροσ των φωτων παρ ω ουκ ενι παραλλαγη η τροπησ αποσκιασμα
Every good gift, and every perfect gift, is from above, descending from the father of illuminations, with whom there is no variableness, nor shadow of change.
18 βουληθεισ απεκυησεν ημασ λογω αληθειασ εισ το ειναι ημασ απαρχην τινα των αυτου κτισματων
Of his own choice he produced us by the word of truth, that we might be a sort of first fruit of his creatures.―
19 ωστε αδελφοι μου αγαπητοι εστω πασ ανθρωποσ ταχυσ εισ το ακουσαι βραδυσ εισ το λαλησαι βραδυσ εισ οργην
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
20 οργη γαρ ανδροσ δικαιοσυνην θεου ου κατεργαζεται
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 διο αποθεμενοι πασαν ρυπαριαν και περισσειαν κακιασ εν πραυτητι δεξασθε τον εμφυτον λογον τον δυναμενον σωσαι τασ ψυχασ υμων
Wherefore laying aside all vicious pollution, and the abundance of iniquity, receive with meekness the ingrafted word, which hath power to save your souls.
22 γινεσθε δε ποιηται λογου και μη μονον ακροαται παραλογιζομενοι εαυτουσ
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves by false reasoning.
23 οτι ει τισ ακροατησ λογου εστιν και ου ποιητησ ουτοσ εοικεν ανδρι κατανοουντι το προσωπον τησ γενεσεωσ αυτου εν εσοπτρω
For if any man be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man that looks at his natural face in a glass;
24 κατενοησεν γαρ εαυτον και απεληλυθεν και ευθεωσ επελαθετο οποιοσ ην
for he beheld himself, and went away, and immediately forgot what sort of person he was.
25 ο δε παρακυψασ εισ νομον τελειον τον τησ ελευθεριασ και παραμεινασ ουτοσ ουκ ακροατησ επιλησμονησ γενομενοσ αλλα ποιητησ εργου ουτοσ μακαριοσ εν τη ποιησει αυτου εσται
But he that looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and perseveres, this man not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, he shall be blessed in his practice.
26 ει τισ δοκει θρησκοσ ειναι εν υμιν μη χαλιναγωγων γλωσσαν αυτου αλλα απατων καρδιαν αυτου τουτου ματαιοσ η θρησκεια
If any man thinks he is a religious character among you, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27 θρησκεια καθαρα και αμιαντοσ παρα θεω και πατρι αυτη εστιν επισκεπτεσθαι ορφανουσ και χηρασ εν τη θλιψει αυτων ασπιλον εαυτον τηρειν απο του κοσμου
Pure religion and undefiled with God even the Father is this, To pay diligent attention to the orphans and widows in their affliction, and to preserve himself spotless from the world.
