Salmi 40

1 Salmo di Davide, [dato] al Capo de' Musici IO ho lungamente e pazientemente aspettato il Signore; Ed egli si è inchinato a me, ed ha ascoltato il mio grido;

For the end, a Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the Lord; and he attended to me, and hearkened to my supplication.

2 E mi ha tratto fuor di una fossa ruinosa, Di un fango pantanoso; Ed ha rizzati i miei piedi sopra una roccia, [Ed] ha fermati i miei passi.

And he brought me up out of a pit of misery, and from miry clay: and he set my feet on a rock, and ordered my goings aright.

3 Ed ha messo nella mia bocca un nuovo cantico [Per] lode dell'Iddio nostro; Molti vedranno [questo], e temeranno, E si confideranno nel Signore.

And he put a new song into my mouth, [even] a hymn to our God: many shall see [it], and fear, and shall hope in the Lord.

4 Beato l'uomo che ha posto il Signore [per] sua confidanza; E non riguarda a' possenti superbi, Nè a quelli che si rivolgono dietro a menzogna.

Blessed [is] the man whose hope is in the name of the Lord, and [who] has not regarded vanities and false frenzies.

5 Signore Iddio mio, tu fai grandi le tue maraviglie; E i tuoi pensieri inverso noi Non ponno per alcuna maniera esserti spiegati per ordine; [Se] io imprendo di narrar[li] e di parlar[ne], Son tanti che io non posso annoverarli.

O Lord my God, thou hast multiplied thy wonderful works, and in thy thoughts there is none who shall be likened to thee: I declared and spoke [of them]: they exceeded number.

6 Tu non prendi piacere in sacrificio, nè in offerta; Tu mi hai forate le orecchie; Tu non hai chiesto, olocausto, nè sacrificio per lo peccato.

Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not; but a body hast thou prepared me: whole-burnt-offering and [sacrifice] for sin thou didst not require.

7 Allora io ho detto: Eccomi venuto; Egli è scritto di me nel volume del Libro.

Then I said, Behold, I come: in the volume of the book it is written concerning me,

8 Dio mio, io prendo piacere in far la tua volontà; E la tua Legge [è] nel mezzo delle mie interiora.

I desired to do thy will, O my God, and thy law in the midst of mine heart.

9 Io ho predicata la [tua] giustizia in gran raunanza; Ecco io non ho rattenute le mie labbra; Tu [lo] sai, Signore.

I have preached righteousness in the great congregation; lo! I will not refrain my lips; O Lord, thou knowest my righteousness.

10 Io non ho nascosta la tua giustizia dentro al mio cuore; Io ho narrata la tua verità e la tua salute; Io non ho celata la tua benignità, nè la tua verità, In gran raunanza.

I have not hid thy truth within my heart, and I have declared thy salvation; I have not hid thy mercy and thy truth from the great congregation.

11 Tu, Signore, non rattenere inverso me le tue compassioni; Guardinmi del continuo la tua benignità e la tua verità.

But thou, Lord, remove not thy compassion far from me; thy mercy and thy truth have helped me continually.

12 Perciocchè mali innumerabili mi hanno circondato; Le mie iniquità mi hanno giunto, E pur non [le] posso vedere; Sono in maggior numero che i capelli del mio capo, Onde il cuor mi vien meno.

For innumerable evils have encompassed me; my transgressions have taken hold of me, and I could not see; they are multiplied more than the hairs of my head; and my heart has failed me.

13 Piacciati, Signore, liberarmi; Signore, affrettati in mio aiuto.

Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me; O Lord, draw nigh to help me.

14 Quelli che cercano l'anima mia, per farla perire, Sieno confusi, e svergognati tutti quanti; Quelli che prendono piacere nel mio male, Voltino le spalle, e sieno svergognati.

Let those that seek my soul, to destroy it, be ashamed and confounded together; let those that wish me evil be turned backward and put to shame.

15 Quelli che mi dicono: Eia, eia! Sieno distrutti, per ricompensa del vituperio che mi fanno.

Let those that say to me, Aha, aha, quickly receive shame for their reward.

16 Rallegrinsi, e gioiscano in te tutti quelli chi ti cercano; Quelli che amano la tua salute dicano del continuo: Magnificato sia il Signore.

Let all those that seek thee, O Lord, exult and rejoice in thee; and let them that love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.

17 Quanto è a me, io [son] povero, e bisognoso; [Ma pure] il Signore ha cura di me; Tu [sei] il mio aiuto e il mio liberatore; O Dio mio, non tardare.

But I am poor and needy; the Lord will take care of me; thou art my helper, and my defender, O my God, delay not.
