ヨハネの福音書 19
1 そこでピラトはイエスを引き取って，彼をむち打った。
Then Pilate took Jesus and flogged him.
2 兵士たちはイバラで冠を編んで彼の頭に載せ，彼に紫の衣を着せた。
The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on his head, and then clothed him with a purple garment.
3 「ユダヤ人の王様，万歳！」と言ったり，彼を平手打ちにしたりしていた。
They kept saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and striking him on the face.
4 それからピラトは再び出て来て，彼らに言った，「見よ，わたしは彼をお前たちのところに連れて来る。わたしが彼に対して訴える根拠を何も見いださないことをお前たちが知るためだ」。
Once again Pilate came out and said to the Jews, “Behold, I am bringing him out to you so that you may know that I find no fault in him.”
5 それでイエスは，イバラの冠と紫の衣を身に着けて，出て来た。ピラトは彼らに言った，「見よ，この人だ！」
Jesus then came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment, and Pilate said to them, “Behold, the man!”
6 それで祭司長たちと役人たちは彼を見ると，叫んで言った，「はりつけにしろ！ はりつけにしろ！」 ピラトは彼らに言った，「自分たちで彼を引き取って，彼をはりつけにするがよい。わたしは彼に対して訴える根拠を何も見いださないからだ」。
When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, “Crucify, crucify him!” But Pilate said to them, “You take him and crucify him, for I find no fault in him.”
7 ユダヤ人たちは彼に言った，「わたしたちには律法があります。わたしたちの律法によれば，彼は死ぬべきです。自分を神の子としたからです」。
The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to our law he must die, for he made himself out to be the Son of God.”
8 それでピラトはこの言葉を聞くとますます恐れた。
When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid.
9 彼は再びプラエトリウムの中に入って，イエスに言った，「お前はどこから来たのか」。しかしイエスは何の答えもしなかった。
He went back into his headquarters and said to Jesus, “Where are yoʋ from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.
10 それでピラトは彼に言った，「お前はわたしに話さないのか。わたしにはお前を釈放する権限があり，お前をはりつけにする権限もあることを，お前は知らないのか」。
So Pilate said to him, “Yoʋ do not speak to me? Do yoʋ not know that I have authority to crucify yoʋ, and authority to release yoʋ?”
11 イエスは答えた，「上から与えられたのでなければ，あなたはわたしに対して何の権限もないだろう。そのために，わたしをあなたに引き渡した者には大きな罪がある」。
Jesus answered, “Yoʋ would have no authority over me if it had not been given to yoʋ from above. Therefore he who handed me over to yoʋ has greater sin.”
12 これを聞いて，ピラトは彼を釈放することを求めたが，ユダヤ人たちは叫んで言った，「あなたがこの人を釈放するなら，あなたはカエサルの友ではない！ 自分を王とする者はカエサルに逆らって語っているのだ！」
From that point forward Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jews cried out, “If yoʋ release this man, yoʋ are not a friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar.”
13 それでピラトはこれらの言葉を聞くと，イエスを連れ出し，「敷石」，ヘブライ語で「ガバタ」と呼ばれる場所で，裁判の席に着いた。
When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called the Stone Pavement (or in Hebrew, Gabbatha).
14 ところで，それは過ぎ越しの準備の日で，およそ第六時であった。彼はユダヤ人たちに言った，「見よ，お前たちの王だ！」
It was about the sixth hour on the day of Preparation for the Passover, and he said to the Jews, “Behold, your king!”
15 彼らは叫んで言った，「取り除け！ 取り除け！ はりつけにしろ！」 ピラトは彼らに言った，「わたしがお前たちの王をはりつけにするのか」。 祭司長たちは答えた，「わたしたちにはカエサルのほかに王はいません！」
But they cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”
16 こうしてその時，ピラトは彼をはりつけにするために彼らに引き渡した。そこで彼らはイエスを引き取って連れて行った。
Then Pilate handed Jesus over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led him away.
17 彼は自分の十字架を運び，「どくろの場所」と呼ばれる場所，ヘブライ語で「ゴルゴタ」と呼ばれる場所へ出て行った。
Carrying his own cross, he went out to a location called the Place of the Skull (which in Hebrew is called Golgotha).
18 その所で，人々は彼をはりつけにした。彼と共にほかの二人を，イエスを真ん中にして，その両側ではりつけにした。
There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on each side, with Jesus in the middle.
19 ピラトは罪状書きも書いて，十字架の上に付けた。そこには「ナザレのイエス，ユダヤ人の王」と書かれていた。
Pilate also wrote a notice and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”
20 それで大勢のユダヤ人たちがこの罪状書きを読んだ。イエスがはりつけにされた場所は町に近かったからであり，それがヘブライ語，ラテン語，およびギリシャ語で書かれていたからであった。
Many of the Jews read this notice, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.
21 そのため，ユダヤ人の祭司長たちはピラトに言った，「『ユダヤ人の王』と書かないで，『この者は「わたしはユダヤ人の王だ」と言った』と書いてください」。
Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but rather, ‘This man said, “I am the king of the Jews.”’”
22 ピラトは答えた，「わたしが書いたことは，わたしが書いたのだ」。
Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”
23 やがて兵士たちは，イエスをはりつけにした時，その衣を取って四つに分け，それぞれの兵士たちに一つずつとした。また上着も取った。ところで，その上着は縫い目がなく，上からそっくり織ったものであった。
When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, a part for each soldier. They also took his tunic, which was seamless. It was woven in one piece from top to bottom,
24 それで彼らは互いに言い合った，「これは裂いたりしないで，だれのものにするか，くじを引こう」。それは，聖書が果たされるためであった。こう述べている。 「彼らは互いに衣を分けた。わたしの外衣のために彼らはくじを引いた」。 そのために役人たちはこれらの事をした。
so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it apart, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be.” This happened to fulfill the Scripture that says, “They divided my garments among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots.” This is what the soldiers did.
25 しかし，イエスの十字架のそばには，彼の母と，母の姉妹クロパスの妻マリア，およびマリア・マグダレネが立っていた。
Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 それでイエスは，自分の母と，自分が愛していた弟子がそこに立っているのを見ると，自分の母に言った，「女よ，見なさい，あなたの子です！」
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, yoʋr son.”
27 次いで，その弟子に言った，「見なさい，あなたの母だ！」 その時から，その弟子は彼女を自分の家に引き取った。
Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, yoʋr mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
28 こののちイエスは，すべての事が完了したこと，また聖書が果たされたことを見て，こう言った。「わたしは渇く」 。
After this, when Jesus saw that everything was now finished, in order to fulfill the Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.”
29 さて，そこには酢を満たした器が置いてあった。そこで彼らは酢をたっぷり含ませた海綿をヒソプに付け，それを彼の口もとに持って行った。
A jar full of sour wine was there, so they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it around a hyssop branch, and brought it up to his mouth.
30 それでイエスは酢を受けると，「完了した」 と言った。頭を垂れて，自分の霊を引き渡した。
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
31 それでユダヤ人たちは，準備の日であったため，（その安息日は特別な安息日であったので，）安息日に体が十字架の上に残らないよう，彼らの足を折って取り降ろすことをピラトに求めた。
Since it was the day of Preparation (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate to have the men's legs broken and their bodies taken away, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath.
32 それで兵士たちは来て，彼と共にはりつけにされた最初の者ともう一方の者の足を折った。
So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who had been crucified with him.
33 しかし，イエスのところに来て，彼がすでに死んでいたのを見ると，その足を折ることはしなかった。
But when they came to Jesus, they did not break his legs since they saw that he was already dead.
34 しかし，兵士たちの一人がそのわき腹を突き刺した。するとすぐに血と水が出て来た。
Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
35 見た者が証言してきたのであり，彼の証言は真実だ。彼は自分が真実を告げていることを知っている。それは，あなた方が信じるためだ。
He who saw this has testified, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he speaks what is true, so that you may believe.
36 というのは，これらの事が起きたのは，「彼の骨が折られることはないだろう」という聖句が果たされるためだったからである。
For these things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “No bone of his will be broken.”
37 また別の聖句は，「彼らは自分たちが突き刺した者を見つめるだろう」と述べている。
And, as another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.”
38 こうした事ののち，イエスの弟子ではあったがユダヤ人たちへの恐れのために秘密にしていたアリマタヤのヨセフが，イエスの体を取り降ろさせて欲しいとピラトに求めた。ピラトは彼に許可を与えた。それで彼は行って，その体を取り降ろした。
After these things, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus (but secretly for fear of the Jews), asked Pilate if he could take away Jesus' body. Pilate gave him permission, so he came and took the body away.
39 最初の時は夜にイエスのもとに来たニコデモも，没薬と沈香とを混ぜた物を百ポンドほど持って来た。
With him came Nicodemus (who had previously come to Jesus by night). He brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes that weighed about seventy-five pounds.
40 こうして彼らはイエスの体を引き取り，埋葬のためのユダヤ人の習慣どおり，香料と共に亜麻布で巻いた。
So they took Jesus' body and wrapped it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the custom of the Jews in preparing a body for burial.
41 さて，彼がはりつけにされた場所には園があり，園にはまだだれも横たえられたことのない新しい墓があった。
Near the place where Jesus was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid.
42 それで，ユダヤ人の準備の日であったため，（その墓が近かったので）彼らはイエスをそこに横たえた。
Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
