コリント人への手紙第一 9

1 わたしは自由な者ではないか。使徒ではないか。わたしたちの主イエスを見たではないか。あなたがたは、主にあるわたしの働きの実ではないか。

Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are ye not my work in the Lord?

2 わたしは、ほかの人に対しては使徒でないとしても、あなたがたには使徒である。あなたがたが主にあることは、わたしの使徒職の印なのである。

If I am not an apostle to others, yet doubtless I am to you: for ye are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

3 わたしの批判者たちに対する弁明は、これである。

My answer to them that examine me is this,

4 わたしたちには、飲み食いをする権利がないのか。

Have we not power to eat and to drink?

5 わたしたちには、ほかの使徒たちや主の兄弟たちやケパのように、信者である妻を連れて歩く権利がないのか。

Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and [as] the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

6 それとも、わたしとバルナバとだけには、労働をせずにいる権利がないのか。

Or I only and Barnabas, have we not power to forbear working?

7 いったい、自分で費用を出して軍隊に加わる者があろうか。ぶどう畑を作っていて、その実を食べない者があろうか。また、羊を飼っていて、その乳を飲まない者があろうか。

Who goeth a warfare at any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of its fruit? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

8 わたしは、人間の考えでこう言うのではない。律法もまた、そのように言っているではないか。

Do I say these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?

9 すなわち、モーセの律法に、「穀物をこなしている牛に、くつこをかけてはならない」と書いてある。神は、牛のことを心にかけておられるのだろうか。

For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?

10 それとも、もっぱら、わたしたちのために言っておられるのか。もちろん、それはわたしたちのためにしるされたのである。すなわち、耕す者は望みをもって耕し、穀物をこなす者は、その分け前をもらう望みをもってこなすのである。

Or saith he [this] altogether for our sakes? for our sakes, no doubt, [this] is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

11 もしわたしたちが、あなたがたのために霊のものをまいたのなら、肉のものをあなたがたから刈りとるのは、行き過ぎだろうか。

If we have sown to you spiritual things, [is it] a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

12 もしほかの人々が、あなたがたに対するこの権利にあずかっているとすれば、わたしたちはなおさらのことではないか。しかしわたしたちは、この権利を利用せず、かえってキリストの福音の妨げにならないようにと、すべてのことを忍んでいる。

If others are partakers of [this] power over you, [are] not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

13 あなたがたは、宮仕えをしている人たちは宮から下がる物を食べ、祭壇に奉仕している人たちは祭壇の供え物の分け前にあずかることを、知らないのか。

Do ye not know that they who minister about holy things live [from the things] of the temple, and they who wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?

14 それと同様に、主は、福音を宣べ伝えている者たちが福音によって生活すべきことを、定められたのである。

Even so hath the Lord ordained that they who preach the gospel should live by the gospel.

15 しかしわたしは、これらの権利を一つも利用しなかった。また、自分がそうしてもらいたいから、このように書くのではない。そうされるよりは、死ぬ方がましである。わたしのこの誇は、何者にも奪い去られてはならないのだ。

But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done to me: for [it were] better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

16 わたしが福音を宣べ伝えても、それは誇にはならない。なぜなら、わたしは、そうせずにはおれないからである。もし福音を宣べ伝えないなら、わたしはわざわいである。

For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of: for necessity is laid upon me; and woe is to me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 進んでそれをすれば、報酬を受けるであろう。しかし、進んでしないとしても、それは、わたしにゆだねられた務なのである。

For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation [of the gospel] is committed to me.

18 それでは、その報酬はなんであるか。福音を宣べ伝えるのにそれを無代価で提供し、わたしが宣教者として持つ権利を利用しないことである。

What is my reward then? [Verily] that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my power in the gospel.

19 わたしは、すべての人に対して自由であるが、できるだけ多くの人を得るために、自ら進んですべての人の奴隷になった。

For though I am free from all [men], yet I have made myself servant to all, that I might gain the more.

20 ユダヤ人には、ユダヤ人のようになった。ユダヤ人を得るためである。律法の下にある人には、わたし自身は律法の下にはないが、律法の下にある者のようになった。律法の下にある人を得るためである。

And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

21 律法のない人にはわたしは神の律法の外にあるのではなく、キリストの律法の中にあるのだが律法のない人のようになった。律法のない人を得るためである。

To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ, ) that I might gain them that are without law.

22 弱い人には弱い者になった。弱い人を得るためである。すべての人に対しては、すべての人のようになった。なんとかして幾人かを救うためである。

To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak: I have become all things to all [men], that I might by all means save some.

23 福音のために、わたしはどんな事でもする。わたしも共に福音にあずかるためである。

And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with [you].

24 あなたがたは知らないのか。競技場で走る者は、みな走りはするが、賞を得る者はひとりだけである。あなたがたも、賞を得るように走りなさい。

Know ye not, that they who run in a race, all run, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

25 しかし、すべて競技をする者は、何ごとにも節制をする。彼らは朽ちる冠を得るためにそうするが、わたしたちは朽ちない冠を得るためにそうするのである。

And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 そこで、わたしは目標のはっきりしないような走り方をせず、空を打つような拳闘はしない。

I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so I fight, not as one that beateth the air:

27 すなわち、自分のからだを打ちたたいて服従させるのである。そうしないと、ほかの人に宣べ伝えておきながら、自分は失格者になるかも知れない。

But I keep under my body, and bring [it] into subjection: lest by any means when I have preached to others, I myself should be a cast-away.
