サムエル記Ⅰ 29

1 さてペリシテびとは、その軍勢をことごとくアペクに集めた。イスラエルびとはエズレルにある泉のかたわらに陣を取った。

Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites camped by the spring which is in Jezreel.

2 ペリシテびとの君たちは、あるいは百人、あるいは千人を率いて進み、ダビデとその従者たちはアキシと共に、しんがりになって進んだ。

The lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands; and David and his men passed on in the rear with Achish.

3 その時、ペリシテびとの君たちは言った、「これらのヘブルびとはここで何をしているのか」。アキシはペリシテびとたちに言った、「これはイスラエルの王サウルのしもべダビデではないか。彼はこの日ごろ、この年ごろ、わたしと共にいたが、逃げ落ちてきた日からきょうまで、わたしは彼にあやまちがあったのを見たことがない」。

Then the leaders of the Philistines said, "What about these Hebrews?" And Achish said to the leaders of the Philistines, "Isn't this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years, and I have found no fault in him since he defected to me until this day?"

4 しかしペリシテびとの君たちは彼に向かって怒った。そしてペリシテびとの君たちは彼に言った、「この人を帰らせて、あなたが彼を置いたもとの所へ行かせなさい。われわれと一緒に彼を戦いに下らせてはならない。戦いの時、彼がわれわれの敵となるかも知れないからである。この者は何をもってその主君とやわらぐことができようか。ここにいる人々の首をもってするほかはあるまい。

But the leaders of the Philistines were angry with him; and the leaders of the Philistines said to him, "Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Should it not be with the heads of these men?

5 これは、かつて人々が踊りのうちに歌いかわして、『サウルは千を撃ち殺し、ダビデは万を撃ち殺した』と言った、あのダビデではないか」。

Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, 'Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands?'"

6 そこでアキシはダビデを呼んで言った、「主は生きておられる。あなたは正しい人である。あなたがわたしと一緒に戦いに出入りすることをわたしは良いと思っている。それはあなたがわたしの所にきた日からこの日まで、わたしは、あなたに悪い事があったのを見たことがないからである。しかしペリシテびとの君たちはあなたを良く言わない。

Then Achish called David, and said to him, "As the LORD lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords do not favor you.

7 それゆえ今安らかに帰って行きなさい。彼らが悪いと思うことはしないがよかろう」。

Therefore now return, and go in peace, that you not displease the lords of the Philistines."

8 ダビデはアキシに言った、「しかしわたしが何をしたというのですか。わたしがあなたに仕えはじめた日からこの日までに、あなたはしもべの身に何を見られたので、わたしは行って、わたしの主君である王の敵と戦うことができないのですか」。

David said to Achish, "But what have I done? What have you found in your servant so long as I have been before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?"

9 アキシはダビデに答えた、「わたしは見て、あなたが神の使のようにりっぱな人であることを知っている。しかし、ペリシテびとの君たちは、『われわれと一緒に彼を戦いに上らせてはならない』と言っている。

Achish answered David, "I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God. Nevertheless the leaders of the Philistines have said, 'He shall not go up with us to the battle.'

10 それで、あなたは、一緒にきたあなたの主君のしもべたちと共に朝早く起きなさい。そして朝早く起き、夜が明けてから去りなさい」。

Therefore now rise up early in the morning, you and the servants of your lord who have come with you, and go to the place which I allotted to you. As for evil remarks, take none to heart; for you are good in my sight. And as soon as you are up early in the morning, and have light, depart."

11 こうしてダビデとその従者たちとは共にペリシテびとの地へ帰ろうと、朝早く起きて出立したが、ペリシテびとはエズレルへ上って行った。

So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. The Philistines went up to Jezreel.
