ಜ್ಞಾನೋಕ್ತಿಗಳು 26
1 ಬೇಸಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಮದಂತೆಯೂ, ಸುಗ್ಗಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಳೆಯಂತೆಯೂ ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನನಿಗೆ ಮಾನವು ಸರಿಯಲ್ಲ.
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so, unbecoming to a dullard is honour.
2 ಅಲೆದಾಡುವ ಪಕ್ಷಿಯಂತೆಯೂ, ಹಾರಾಡುವ ಬಾನಕ್ಕಿಯಂತೆಯೂ ಕಾರಣವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಶಾಪವು ತಗಲದು.
As a sparrow in wandering, as a swallow in flying, so, a causeless curse, shall not alight.
3 ಕುದುರೆಗೆ ಬಾರುಗೋಲು, ಕತ್ತೆಗೆ ಕಡಿವಾಣವು, ಮೂಢನ ಬೆನ್ನಿಗೆ ಬೆತ್ತ.
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of dullards.
4 ಮೂಢನ ಮೂರ್ಖತನಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಬೇಡ; ಇಲ್ಲವಾದರೆ ನೀನೂ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನನಾದೀಯೆ.
Do not answer a dullard, according to his folly, lest, even thou thyself, become like him;
5 ಮೂಢನ ಮೂರ್ಖತನಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಉತ್ತರಕೊಡು; ಇಲ್ಲವಾದರೆ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯೆಂದು ಎಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಾನು.
Answer a dullard according to his folly, lest he become wise in his own eyes.
6 ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನನ ಮೂಲಕ ವರ್ತಮಾನ ಕಳುಹಿಸುವವನು ತನ್ನ ಪಾದಗಳನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ಕಡಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಕೇಡನ್ನು ಕುಡಿಯುತ್ತಾನೆ.
One who cutteth off feet, one who drinketh down wrong, is he who sendeth a message by the hand of a dullard.
7 ಕುಂಟನ ಕಾಲುಗಳು ಜೋಲಾಡುವ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ, ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನರ ಬಾಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನೋಕ್ತಿಯು ಇರುತ್ತದೆ.
Useless are the legs of the lame, and a proverb, in the mouth of a dullard.
8 ಮೂಢನಿಗೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಮಾನವು ಕವಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟ ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಹಾಗೆ.
Like tying a stone to a sling, so, is he that giveth honour, to a dullard.
9 ಕುಡುಕನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳ್ಳು ಕೋಲಿನಂತೆ ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನರ ಬಾಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನೋಕ್ತಿಯು ಇರುವುದು.
A brier cometh into the hand of a drunken-man, a proverb into the mouth of dullards.
10 ಮೂಢರನ್ನೂ ದಾರಿಹೋಕರನ್ನೂ ಕೂಲಿಗೆ ಕರೆಯುವವನು ಯಾರಿಗಾದರೂ ತಗಲಲಿ ಎಂದು ಬಾಣ ಎಸೆಯುವ ಬಿಲ್ಲುಗಾರನಂತೆ.
[As] an archer who woundeth every thing, [so] one who hireth a dullard, and a drunkard crossing the sea.
11 ತಾನು ಕಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾಯಿಯು ತಿರುಗುವಂತೆ ಮೂಢನು ತನ್ನ ಮೂಢತನಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗುತ್ತಾನೆ.
As, a dog, returneth onto his own vomit, a dullard, repeateth his folly.
12 ತನ್ನ ಸ್ವಂತ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯಾದವನನ್ನು ನೀನು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀಯೋ? ಅವನಿಗಿಂತ ಮೂಢನ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯು ಇರುತ್ತದೆ.
Thou hast seen a man wise in his own eye, —more hope of a dullard, than of him!
13 ಸೋಮಾರಿಯು, “ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಂಹವಿದೆ, ಬೀದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭೀಕರ ಸಿಂಹ ಇದೆ,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.
Saith the sluggard, A roaring lion in the road! A tearing lion in the midst of the broadways.
14 ಬಾಗಿಲು ತಿರುಗುಣಿಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೇಗೆ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತದೋ, ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಸೋಮಾರಿಯು ತನ್ನ ಹಾಸಿಗೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರಳಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.
The door, turneth on its hinges, and, the sluggard, upon his bed.
15 ಸೋಮಾರಿಯು ತಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಕೈಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿ, ತಿರುಗಿ ಅದನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ತರಲಾರದಷ್ಟು ಆಯಾಸಪಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.
The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.
16 ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಬಲ್ಲ ಏಳು ಜನರಿಗಿಂತ, ತಾನೇ ಜ್ಞಾನಿ ಎಂದು ಸೋಮಾರಿಯು ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
Wiser is the sluggard in his own eyes, than, seven persons, who can answer with judgment.
17 ಒಬ್ಬನು ಹಾದುಹೋಗುತ್ತಾ ತನಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸದೇ ಇರುವ ವ್ಯಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತಲೆಹಾಕುವವನು ನಾಯಿಯ ಕಿವಿ ಹಿಡಿದವನಂತೆ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ.
As he who layeth hold of the ears of a dog, is a passer-by, who giveth vent to his wrath over a quarrel, not his!
18 ತನ್ನ ನೆರೆಯವನನ್ನು ಮೋಸಗೊಳಿಸಿ, “ಇದು ತಮಾಷೆಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವವನು, ಕೊಳ್ಳಿಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಬಾಣಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಸಾವನ್ನೂ ಬೀರುವ ಹುಚ್ಚನಂತೆಯೇ.
As a madman throwing firebrands, arrows and death,
So, is a man who deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Was not, I, in sport?
20 ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲದಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಕಿಯು ಆರಿಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ; ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಚಾಡಿಕೋರನು ಇಲ್ಲದಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಜಗಳ ಶಮನವಾಗುವುದು.
Without wood a fire is quenched, and, where there is no tattler, strife is hushed.
21 ಕೆಂಡಗಳಿಗೆ ಇದ್ದಲು, ಬೆಂಕಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆ; ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಜಗಳವನ್ನು ಕೆರಳಿಸುವಂತೆ ಕಲಹ ಮಾಡುವವನು ಇರುವನು.
Black coal to burning blocks, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man, for kindling strife.
22 ಚಾಡಿಕೋರನ ಮಾತುಗಳು ರುಚಿಕರ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯದ ಹಾಗೆ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯ ಅಂತರ್ಭಾಗಗಳಿಗೆ ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತವೆ.
the words of a tattler, are dainties, they, therefore go down into the chambers of the inner man.
23 ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಹೃದಯದಿಂದ ಸವಿನುಡಿಯುವ ತುಟಿಯು, ಬೆಳ್ಳಿಯ ಹೊದಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಮುಚ್ಚಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಬೋಕಿಯಂತೆ ಇದೆ.
Dross silver overlaid upon earthenware, so are burning lips, with a mischievous heart:
24 ಶತ್ರುಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ತುಟಿಗಳಿಂದ ವೇಷ ಧರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ, ತನ್ನ ಅಂತರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋಸವನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.
With his lips, the hater dissembleth, but, within himself, he layeth up deceit:
25 ಸವಿಮಾತನ್ನಾಡಿದರೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ನಂಬಬೇಡ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವನ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಏಳು ಅಸಹ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಿವೆ.
Though he make gracious his voice, do not trust him, for, seven abominations, are in his heart:
26 ಅವನ ಹಗೆತನವು ಮೋಸದಿಂದ ಮುಚ್ಚಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರೂ, ಅವನ ಕೆಟ್ಟತನವು ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಯಲಾಗುವುದು.
Hatred may clothe itself with guile, his wickedness shall be disclosed in the convocation.
27 ಗುಂಡಿಯನ್ನು ತೋಡುವವನು ತಾನೇ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀಳುತ್ತಾನೆ; ಕಲ್ಲು ಹೊರಳಿಸುವವನ ಮೇಲೆಯೇ ಅದು ತಿರುಗಿ ಹೊರಳುವುದು.
He that diggeth a pit, thereinto, shall fall, and, he that rolleth a stone, upon himself, shall it return.
28 ಸುಳ್ಳು ನಾಲಿಗೆಯವನು ತಾನು ಬಾಧಿಸಿದವರನ್ನೇ ಹಗೆ ಮಾಡುವನು; ಮುಖಸ್ತುತಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಬಾಯಿಯು ನಾಶವನ್ನುಂಟುಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.
A false tongue, hateth them who are crushed by it, and, a flattering mouth, worketh occasion of stumbling.
