درباره فردا فخر منما، زیرا نمی دانی که روز چه خواهد زایید. | ۱ 1 |
Boast not yourself of tomorrow; for you know not what a day may bring forth.
دیگری تو را بستاید و نه دهان خودت، غریبی و نه لبهای تو. | ۲ 2 |
Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.
سنگ سنگین است و ریگ ثقیل، اما خشم احمق از هر دوی آنها سنگینتر است. | ۳ 3 |
A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.
غضب ستم کیش است و خشم سیل، اماکیست که در برابر حسد تواند ایستاد. | ۴ 4 |
Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
تنبیه آشکار از محبت پنهان بهتر است. | ۵ 5 |
Open rebuke is better than secret love.
جراحات دوست وفادار است، اما بوسه های دشمن افراط است. | ۶ 6 |
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
شکم سیر ازشان عسل کراهت دارد، امابرای شکم گرسنه هر تلخی شیرین است. | ۷ 7 |
The full soul loathes an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
کسیکه از مکان خود آواره بشود، مثل گنجشکی است که از آشیانهاش آواره گردد. | ۸ 8 |
As a bird that wanders from her nest, so is a man that wanders from his place.
روغن و عطر دل را شاد میکند، همچنان حلاوت دوست از مشورت دل. | ۹ 9 |
Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so does the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
دوست خود و دوست پدرت را ترک منما، و در روز مصیبت خود به خانه برادرت داخل مشو، زیرا که همسایه نزدیک از برادر دور بهتراست. | ۱۰ 10 |
your own friend, and your father's friend, forsake not; neither go into your brother's house in the day of your calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
ای پسر من حکمت بیاموز و دل مرا شادکن، تا ملامت کنندگان خود را مجاب سازم. | ۱۱ 11 |
My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproaches me.
مرد زیرک، بلا را میبیند و خویشتن رامخفی میسازد، اما جاهلان میگذرند و درعقوبت گرفتار میشوند. | ۱۲ 12 |
A prudent man forsees the evil, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
جامه آن کس را بگیر که به جهت غریب ضامن است، و او را به رهن بگیر که ضامن بیگانگان است. | ۱۳ 13 |
Take his garment that is guarantor for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
کسیکه صبح زود برخاسته، دوست خودرا به آواز بلند برکت دهد، از برایش لعنت محسوب میشود. | ۱۴ 14 |
He that blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
چکیدن دائمی آب در روز باران، و زن ستیزهجو مشابهاند. | ۱۵ 15 |
A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
هرکه او را بازدارد مثل کسی است که باد رانگاه دارد، یا روغن را که در دست راست خودگرفته باشد. | ۱۶ 16 |
Whosoever hides her hides the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which betrayed itself.
آهن، آهن را تیز میکند، همچنین مرد روی دوست خود را تیز میسازد. | ۱۷ 17 |
Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
هرکه درخت انجیر را نگاه دارد میوهاش راخواهد خورد، و هرکه آقای خود را ملازمت نماید محترم خواهد شد، | ۱۸ 18 |
Whoso keeps the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waits on his master shall be honoured.
چنانکه در آب صورت به صورت است، همچنان دل انسان به انسان. | ۱۹ 19 |
As in water face answers to face, so the heart of man to man.
هاویه و ابدون سیر نمی شوند، همچنان چشمان انسان سیر نخواهند شد. (Sheol ) | ۲۰ 20 |
Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Sheol )
بوته برای نقره و کوره به جهت طلاست، همچنان انسان از دهان ستایش کنندگان خود(آزموده میشود). | ۲۱ 21 |
As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
احمق را میان بلغور در هاون با دسته بکوب، و حماقتش از آن بیرون نخواهد رفت. | ۲۲ 22 |
Though you should bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
به حالت گله خود نیکو توجه نما، و دل خود را به رمه خود مشغول ساز، | ۲۳ 23 |
Be you diligent to know the state of your flocks, and look well to your herds.
زیرا که دولت دائمی نیست، و تاج هم نسلابعد نسل (پایدار) نی. | ۲۴ 24 |
For riches are not for ever: and does the crown endure to every generation?
علف را میبرند و گیاه سبز میروید، وعلوفه کوهها جمع میشود، | ۲۵ 25 |
The hay appears, and the tender grass shows itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
برهها برای لباس تو، و بزها به جهت اجاره زمین بهکار میآیند، | ۲۶ 26 |
The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
و شیر بزها برای خوراک تو و خوراک خاندانت، و معیشت کنیزانت کفایت خواهد کرد. | ۲۷ 27 |
And you shall have goats' milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, and for the maintenance for your maidens.
