| چون بلعام دید که قصد خداوند این است که قوم اسرائیل را برکت دهد، پس مثل دفعات پیش سعی نکرد از عالم غیب پیام بگیرد. او سرش را به طرف دشت برگرداند | 1 |
And when Balaam saw that it pleased God to bless Israel, he did not go according to his custom to meet the omens, but turned his face towards the wilderness.
| و اردوی اسرائیل را دید که قبیله به قبیله در دشت پخش شده‌اند. آنگاه روح خدا بر او قرار گرفت، | 2 |
And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and sees Israel encamped by their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.
| و دربارهٔ ایشان چنین پیشگویی کرد: «این است وحی بلعام پسر بعور، وحی آن مردی که چشمانش باز شد، وحی آن کسی که سخنان خدا را شنید، و رویایی را که خدای قادر مطلق نشان داد مشاهده نمود، آنکه به خاک افتاد و چشمانش باز شد، چه زیبایند خیمه‌های بنی‌اسرائیل! آنها را مثل دره‌های سبز و خرم و چون باغهای کنار رودخانه، در مقابل خود گسترده می‌بینم، مثل درختان عود که خود خداوند نشانده باشد، و مانند درختان سرو کنار آب. دلوهای ایشان از آب لبریز خواهند بود، و بذرهایشان با آب فراوان آبیاری خواهند شد. پادشاه ایشان از”اجاج“بزرگتر خواهد بود و کشورشان بسیار سرافراز خواهد گردید. خدا اسرائیل را از مصر بیرون آورده است، آنها مثل شاخهای گاو وحشی نیرومند هستند، اسرائیل قومهایی را که با ایشان مخالفت کنند، می‌بلعند. استخوانهایشان را می‌شکنند و خرد می‌کنند و با تیرهایشان پیکر آنها را به زمین می‌دوزند. بنی‌اسرائیل چون شیر می‌خوابد، چه کسی جرأت دارد او را بیدار کند؟ ای اسرائیل، برکت باد بر هر که تو را برکت دهد و لعنت باد بر کسی که تو را لعنت کند.» | 3 |
And he took up his parable and said, Balaam son of Beor says, the man who sees truly says,

he says who hears the oracle of the Mighty One, who saw a vision of God in sleep; his eyes were opened:
| 5 |
How goodly [are] your habitations, Jacob, and your tents, Israel!
| 6 |
as shady groves, and as gardens by a river, and as tents which God pitched, and as cedars by the waters.
| 7 |
There shall come a man out of his seed, and he shall rule over many nations; and the kingdom of Gog shall be exalted, and his kingdom shall be increased.
| 8 |
God led him out of Egypt; he has as it were the glory of a unicorn: he shall consume the nations of his enemies, and he shall drain their marrow, and with his darts he shall shoot through the enemy.
| 9 |
He lay down, he rested as a lion, and as a young lion; who shall stir him up? they that bless you are blessed, and they that curse you are cursed.
| بالاق به شدت خشمگین شد. او در حالی که دستهایش را به هم می‌کوبید سر بلعام فریاد کشید: «من تو را به اینجا آوردم تا دشمنانم را نفرین کنی، ولی در عوض، تو سه بار آنان را برکت دادی. | 10 |
And Balac was angry with Balaam, and clapped his hands together; and Balac said to Balaam, I called you to curse my enemy, and behold you have decidedly blessed [him] this third time.
| از اینجا برو! برگرد به خانه‌ات! من تصمیم داشتم به تو پاداش خوبی دهم، ولی خداوند تو را از آن بازداشت.» | 11 |
Now therefore flee to your place: I said, I will honour you, but now the Lord has deprived you of glory.
| بلعام جواب داد: «مگر به فرستاده‌های تو نگفتم که | 12 |
And Balaam said to Balac, Did I not speak to your messengers also whom you sent to me, saying,
| اگر بالاق یک کاخ پر از طلا و نقره هم به من بدهد، نمی‌توانم از فرمان خداوند سرپیچی نموده، آنچه خود بخواهم بگویم. من هر چه خداوند بفرماید همان را می‌گویم. | 13 |
If Balac should give me his house full of silver and gold, I shall not be able to transgress the word of the Lord to make it good or bad by myself; whatever things God shall say, them will I speak.
| حال، پیش قوم خود باز می‌گردم، ولی پیش از رفتنم بگذار به تو بگویم که در آینده بنی‌اسرائیل بر سر قوم تو چه خواهند آورد.» | 14 |
And now, behold, I return to my place; come, I will advise you of what this people shall do to your people in the last days.
| آنگاه بلعام چنین پیشگویی کرد: «این است وحی بلعام پسر بعور، وحی آن مردی که چشمانش باز شد، وحی آن کسی که سخنان خدا را شنید، و از خدای متعال بصیرت را کسب کرد و رویایی را که خدای قادر مطلق نشان داد، مشاهده نمود، آنکه به خاک افتاد و چشمانش باز شد: او را خواهم دید، اما نه حالا، او را مشاهده خواهم نمود، اما نه از نزدیک. ستاره‌ای از یعقوب ظهور خواهد کرد، و عصایی از اسرائیل برخواهد خاست. او پیشانی موآب را خرد خواهد کرد و فرزندان شیث را سرکوب خواهد نمود، ادوم و سعیر به تصرف در خواهند آمد، اما اسرائیل پیروز خواهد شد. فرمانروایی از اسرائیل ظهور خواهد نمود و بازماندگان شهرها را نابود خواهد کرد.» | 15 |
And he took up his parable and said, Balaam the son of Beor says, the man who sees truly says,

hearing the oracles of God, receiving knowledge from the Most High, and having seen a vision of God in sleep; his eyes were opened.
| 17 |
I will point to him, but not now; I bless him, but he draws not near: a star shall rise out of Jacob, a man shall spring out of Israel; and shall crush the princes of Moab, and shall spoil all the sons of Seth.
| 18 |
And Edom shall be an inheritance, and Esau his enemy shall be an inheritance [of Israel], and Israel wrought valiantly.
| 19 |
And [one] shall arise out of Jacob, and destroy out of the city him that escapes.
| سپس، بلعام به طرف عمالیقی‌ها چشم دوخت و چنین پیشگویی کرد: «عمالیق سرآمد قومها بود، ولی سرنوشتش هلاکت است.» | 20 |
And having seen Amalec, he took up his parable and said, Amalec [is] the first of the nations; yet his seed shall perish.
| بعد به قینی‌ها نظر انداخت و چنین پیشگویی کرد: «آری، مسکن شما مستحکم است، آشیانه‌تان بر صخره قرار دارد؛ ولی ای قینی‌ها نابود خواهید شد و سپاه نیرومند پادشاه آشور شما را به اسارت خواهد برد.» | 21 |
And having seen the Kenite, he took up his parable and said, your dwelling-place [is] strong; yet though you should put your nest in a rock,
| 22 |
and though Beor should have a skilfully contrived hiding-place, the Assyrians shall carry you away captive.
| او با این سخنان به پیشگویی خود خاتمه داد: «وقتی خدا این کار را انجام دهد چه کسی زنده خواهد ماند؟ کشتی‌ها از سواحل قبرس خواهند آمد و آشور و عابر را ذلیل خواهند کرد، و خود نیز از بین خواهند رفت.» | 23 |
And he looked upon Og, and took up his parable and said, Oh, oh, who shall live, when God shall do these things?
| 24 |
And one shall come forth from the hands of the Citians, and shall afflict Assur, and shall afflict the Hebrews, and they shall perish together.
| آنگاه بلعام و بالاق هر یک به خانه‌های خود رفتند. | 25 |
And Balaam rose up and departed and returned to his place, and Balac went to his own home.
