1 برای رهبر سرایندگان: با همراهی سازهای زهی. قصیدۀ داوود. خدایا، به دعای من گوش فرا ده. هنگامی که نزد تو ناله می‌کنم، خود را پنهان نکن.

For the end, among Hymns of instruction by David. Hearken, O God, to my prayer; and disregard not my supplication.

2 دعایم را بشنو و آن را مستجاب فرما، زیرا از شدت پریشانی فکر، نمی‌دانم چه کنم.

Attend to me, and hearken to me: I was grieved in my (meditation) and troubled;

3 تهدید دشمنان و ظلم بدکاران، خاطرم را آشفته کرده است. آنان با خشم و نفرت با من رفتار می‌کنند و مرا عذاب می‌دهند.

because of the voice of the enemy, and because of the oppression of the sinner: for they brought iniquity against me, and were wrathfully angry with me.

4 ترس بر قلبم چنگ انداخته و مرا بی‌قرار کرده؛ وحشت مرگ سراسر وجودم را فرا گرفته است.

My heart was troubled within me; and the fear of death fell upon me.

5 از شدت ترس و لرز نزدیک است قالب تهی کنم.

Fear and trembling came upon me, and darkness covered me.

6 به خود می‌گویم: «ای کاش همچون کبوتر بال می‌داشتم تا به جایی دور در صحرا پرواز می‌کردم و در آنجا پنهان می‌شدم و استراحت می‌کردم؛

And I said, O that I had wings as [those] of a dove! then would I flee away, and be at rest.

Lo! I have fled afar off, and lodged in the wilderness. (Pause)

8 می‌شتافتم به سوی پناهگاهی و از تندباد و طوفان حوادث در امان می‌ماندم.»

I waited for him that should deliver me from distress of spirit and tempest.

9 خداوندا، این شریران را چنان پریشان کن که زبان یکدیگر را نفهمند، زیرا آنان شهر را از خشونت و ظلم پر ساخته‌اند.

Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen iniquity and gain saying in the city.

10 آنان روز و شب شهر را دور می‌زنند و شرارت و جنایت می‌آفرینند.

Day and night he shall go round about it upon its walls: iniquity and sorrow and unrighteousness [are] in the midst of it;

11 شهر پر از ظلم و فساد است و حیله و فریب از کوچه‌ها دور نمی‌شود.

and usury and craft have not failed from its streets.

12 این دشمن من نیست که به من توهین می‌کند، و گرنه تحمل می‌کردم؛ این حریف من نیست که بر من برخاسته، و گرنه خود را از او پنهان می‌کردم.

For if an enemy had reproached me, I would have endured it; and if one who hated [me] had spoken vauntingly against me, I would have hid myself from him.

13 این تو هستی ای دوست صمیمی و همکار من!

But thou, O man like minded, my guide, and my acquaintance,

14 ما با یکدیگر رفاقت صادقانه داشتیم، با یکدیگر درد دل می‌کردیم و با هم به خانهٔ خدا می‌رفتیم.

who in companionship with me sweetened [our] food: we walked in the house of God in concord.

15 باشد که دشمنانم پیش از وقت، زنده به گور شوند، زیرا دلها و خانه‌هایشان پر از شرارت است. (Sheol h7585)

Let death come upon them, and let them go down alive into Hades, for iniquity is in their dwellings, in the midst of them. (Sheol h7585)

16 اما من از خدا کمک می‌طلبم و او نجاتم خواهد داد.

I cried to God, and the Lord hearkened to me.

17 صبح، ظهر و شب به پیشگاه خدا می‌نالم و شکایت می‌کنم و او صدای مرا خواهد شنید.

Evening, and morning, and at noon I will declare and make known [my wants]: and he shall hear my voice.

18 هر چند دشمنان من زیادند، اما او مرا در جنگ با آنها پیروز خواهد ساخت و به سلامت باز خواهد گرداند.

He shall deliver my soul in peace from them that draw nigh to me: for they were with me in many [cases].

19 خدایی که از ازل بر تخت فرمانروایی نشسته است دعایم را خواهد شنید و آنها را شکست خواهد داد، زیرا آنها از خدا نمی‌ترسند و نقشه‌های پلید خود را تغییر نمی‌دهند.

God shall hear, and bring them low, [even] he that has existed from eternity. (Pause) For they suffer no reverse, and [therefore] they have not feared God.

20 دوست و همکار سابق من دست خود را بر روی دوستانش بلند می‌کند و عهد دوستی خود را می‌شکند.

He has reached forth his hand for retribution; they have profaned his covenant.

21 زبانش چرب است اما در باطنش کینه و نفرت هست. سخنانش از روغن نیز نرمتر است اما همچون شمشیر می‌برد و زخمی می‌کند.

They were scattered at the anger of his countenance, and his heart drew nigh them. His words were smoother than oil, yet are they darts.

22 نگرانی خود را به خدا واگذار و او تو را حفظ خواهد کرد. خداوند هرگز نخواهد گذاشت که عادلان بلغزند و بیفتند.

Cast thy care upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

23 اما تو ای خدا، این اشخاص خونخوار و نیرنگ‌باز را پیش از وقت به گور خواهی فرستاد. ولی من بر تو توکل دارم.

But thou, O God, shalt bring them down to the pit of destruction; bloody and crafty men shall not live out half their days; but I will hope in thee, O Lord.
