Jó 3
1 Depois disto Jó abriu sua boca, e amaldiçoou seu dia.
After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.
2 Pois Jó respondeu, e disse:
And Job answered and said,
3 Pereça o dia em que nasci, e a noite [em que] se disse: Um homem foi concebido.
Let the day perish in which I was born, and the night that said, There is a man child conceived.
4 Torne-se aquele dia em trevas; Deus não lhe dê atenção desde acima, nem claridade brilhe sobre ele.
That day — let it be darkness, let not God care for it from above, neither let light shine upon it:
5 Reivindiquem-no para si trevas e sombra de morte; nuvens habitem sobre ele; a escuridão do dia o espante.
Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it; let clouds dwell upon it; let darkeners of the day terrify it.
6 Tome a escuridão aquela noite; não seja contada entre os dias do ano, nem faça parte do número dos meses.
That night — let gloom seize upon it; let it not rejoice among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months.
7 Ah se aquela noite fosse solitária, e música de alegria não viesse a ela!
Behold, let that night be barren; let no joyful sound come therein;
8 Amaldiçoem-na os que amaldiçoam o dia, os que se preparam para levantar seu pranto.
Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to rouse Leviathan;
9 Escureçam-se as estrelas de sua manhã; espere a luz, e não venha, e as pálpebras não vejam o amanhecer;
Let the stars of its twilight be dark; let it wait for light, and have none, neither let it see the eyelids of the dawn:
10 Pois não fechou as portas do ventre onde eu estava, nem escondeu de meus olhos o sofrimento.
Because it shut not up the doors of the womb that bore me, and hid not trouble from mine eyes.
11 Por que eu não morri desde a madre, ou perdi a vida ao sair do ventre?
Wherefore did I not die from the womb, — come forth from the belly and expire?
12 Por que joelhos me receberam? E por que seios me amamentaram?
Why did the knees meet me? and wherefore the breasts, that I should suck?
13 Pois agora eu jazeria e repousaria; dormiria, e então haveria repouso para mim;
For now should I have lain down and been quiet; I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
14 Com os reis e os conselheiros da terra, que edificavam para si os desertos;
With kings and counsellors of the earth, who build desolate places for themselves,
15 Ou com os príncipes que tinham ouro, que enchiam suas casas de prata.
Or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver;
16 Ou [por que] não fui como um aborto oculto, como as crianças que nunca viram a luz?
Or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants that have not seen the light.
17 Ali os maus deixam de perturbar, e ali repousam os cansados de forças.
There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the wearied are at rest.
18 Ali os prisioneiros juntamente repousam; [e] não ouvem a voz do opressor.
The prisoners together are at ease; they hear not the voice of the taskmaster.
19 Ali estão o pequeno e o grande; e o servo livre [está] de seu senhor.
The small and great are there, and the bondman freed from his master.
20 Por que se dá luz ao sofredor, e vida aos amargos de alma,
Wherefore is light given to him that is in trouble, and life to those bitter of soul,
21 Que esperam a morte, e ela não chega, e que a buscam mais que tesouros;
Who long for death, and it [cometh] not, and dig for it more than for hidden treasures;
22 Que saltam de alegram e ficam contentes quando acham a sepultura?
Who rejoice even exultingly and are glad when they find the grave? —
23 [E também] ao homem cujo caminho é oculto, e a quem Deus [o] encobriu?
To the man whose way is hidden, and whom God hath hedged in?
24 Pois antes do meu pão vem meu suspiro; e meus gemidos correm como águas.
For my sighing cometh before my bread, and my groanings are poured out like the waters.
25 Pois aquilo eu temia tanto veio a mim, e aquilo que tinha medo me aconteceu.
For I feared a fear, and it hath come upon me, and that which I dreaded hath come to me.
26 Não tenho tido descanso, nem tranquilidade, nem repouso; mas perturbação veio sobre mim.
I was not in safety, neither had I quietness, neither was I at rest, and trouble came.
