2 Crónicas 32

1 Después de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, llegó e invadió Judá. Sitió las ciudades fortificadas y se propuso dominarlas.

After [these] things, and their establishment, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.

2 Al ver Ezequías que Senaquerib llegó con intención de combatir contra Jerusalén,

And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

3 resolvió con sus jefes y sus valientes cegar los manantiales que estaban fuera de la ciudad, y ellos lo apoyaron.

He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which [were] without the city: and they helped him.

4 Mucho pueblo se juntó y cegaron todos los manantiales, y también el arroyo que fluía a través del territorio, pues dijeron: ¿Por qué los reyes de Asiria deben hallar agua cuando vengan?

So there were assembled many people, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

5 Ezequías se animó, reconstruyó todo el muro que estaba derribado y levantó torres sobre él. Levantó otro muro por fuera, fortificó el terraplén de la Ciudad de David e hizo muchas espadas y escudos.

Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised [it] up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo [in] the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.

6 Designó jefes sobre el pueblo. Los reunió ante él en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad y les habló al corazón:

And he set captains of war over the people, and assembled them to him in the street of the gate of the city, and encouraged them, saying,

7 ¡Esfuércense y sean valientes! No teman ni desmayen a causa del rey de Asiria y de la multitud que está con él, porque más son los que están con nosotros que los que están con él.

Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that [is] with him: for [there are] more with us than with him:

8 Con él está un brazo de carne, pero con nosotros está Yavé nuestro ʼElohim para ayudarnos y pelear nuestras batallas. Y el pueblo tuvo confianza en las palabras de Ezequías, rey de Judá.

With him [is] an arm of flesh; but with us [is] the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

9 Después de esto, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, quien había sitiado Laquis con todas sus fuerzas, envió a sus esclavos a Jerusalén, a Ezequías, rey de Judá, y a todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalén, y dijeron:

After this Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (but he [himself laid siege] against Lachish, and all his power with him, ) to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah that [were] at Jerusalem, saying,

10 Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, dice: ¿En qué confían ustedes quienes se quedan sitiados en Jerusalén?

Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, On what do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?

11 ¿No los engaña Ezequías para entregarlos a morir de hambre y de sed, al decir: Yavé nuestro ʼElohim nos librará de mano del rey de Asiria?

Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

12 ¿No es este Ezequías el mismo que quitó sus lugares altos y sus altares, y ordenó a Judá y a Jerusalén: Ante este único altar se postrarán, y sobre él quemarán incienso?

Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?

13 ¿No saben lo que yo y mis antepasados hicimos a todos los pueblos de la tierra? ¿Pudieron los ʼelohim de naciones librar su tierra de mi mano?

Know ye not what I and my fathers have done to all the people of [other] lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of my hand?

14 ¿Cuál de todos los ʼelohim de las naciones que mis antepasados destruyeron completamente, pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano, para que su ʼElohim pueda librarlos a ustedes de mi mano?

Who [was there] among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?

15 Ahora pues, no los engañe Ezequías ni los persuada de esta manera, ni le crean porque ningún ʼelohim de todas aquellas naciones o reinos pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano, ni de la mano de mis antepasados. ¡Cuánto menos su ʼElohim podrá librarlos de mi mano!

Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom hath been able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand?

16 Sus esclavos hablaron muchas otras cosas contra Yavé ʼElohim y su esclavo Ezequías.

And his servants spoke yet [more] against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

17 También escribió cartas en las cuales blasfemaba contra Yavé, ʼElohim de Israel, y hablaba contra Él de este modo: Así como los ʼelohim de otras naciones no libraron a sus pueblos de mi mano, tampoco el ʼElohim de Ezequías librará a su pueblo de mi mano.

He wrote also letters to rail at the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of [other] lands have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my hand.

18 Clamaban a gran voz en la lengua de Judá al pueblo de Jerusalén que estaba en el muro, para intimidarlos y aterrorizarlos a fin de tomar la ciudad.

Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech to the people of Jerusalem that [were] on the wall, to affright them, and to fill them with consternation; that they might take the city.

19 Hablaron del ʼElohim de Jerusalén como de los que son ʼelohim de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos de hombres.

And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, the work of the hands of man.

20 Pero el rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, oraron acerca de esto y clamaron al cielo.

And for this [cause] Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.

21 Yavé envió un ángel, el cual hirió a todos los guerreros esforzados, oficiales y jefes en el campamento del rey de Asiria, quien regresó a su tierra avergonzado. Cuando entraba en el templo de su ʼelohim, algunos de sus propios hijos lo mataron allí a espada.

And the LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he had come into the house of his god, they that came forth from his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

22 De este modo Yavé salvó a Ezequías y a los habitantes de Jerusalén de la mano de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y de la mano de todos. Los guió por todos lados.

Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all [others], and guided them on every side.

23 Muchos llevaron ofrendas para Yavé a Jerusalén y magníficos presentes para Ezequías, rey de Judá. A partir de ese tiempo su nombre fue exaltado ante todas las naciones.

And many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that from thenceforth he was magnified in the sight of all nations.

24 En aquellos días Ezequías enfermó de muerte, pero oró a Yavé. Él le respondió y le dio una señal.

In those days Hezekiah was sick and near to death, and [he] prayed to the LORD: and he spoke to him, and he gave him a sign.

25 Pero Ezequías no correspondió al bien que recibió. Más bien su corazón se enalteció, y la ira [de ]Yavé llegó sobre él, sobre Judá y Jerusalén.

But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit [done] to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

26 Sin embargo Ezequías se humilló junto con los habitantes de Jerusalén, de modo que la ira de Yavé no recayó sobre ellos en los días de Ezequías.

Notwithstanding, Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, [both] he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

27 Ezequías tuvo muchas riquezas y esplendor. Acumuló grandes tesoros de plata, oro, piedras preciosas, perfumes, escudos y toda clase de joyas deseables.

And Hezekiah had very great riches and honor: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels:

28 Hizo almacenes para el grano, el mosto y el aceite, establos para toda clase de bestias y apriscos para los rebaños.

Store-houses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.

29 También adquirió ciudades, pues tenía numerosos rebaños de ovejas y hatos de ganado vacuno en abundancia, porque ʼElohim le dio muchas riquezas.

Moreover, he provided for himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance in great abundance.

30 El mismo Ezequías cegó la salida superior de las aguas del Gihón y las dirigió hacia el occidente de la Ciudad de David. Y Ezequías prosperó en todo lo que hizo.

This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

31 Sin embargo, en el asunto de los embajadores de los gobernantes de Babilonia que fueron enviados a él para investigar el prodigio que aconteció en el país, ʼElohim lo dejó para probarlo, a fin de conocer todo lo que había en su corazón.

But, in [the business of] the embassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was [done] in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all [that was] in his heart.

32 Los demás hechos de Ezequías y sus obras piadosas ciertamente están escritos en la visión del profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, en el rollo de los Reyes de Judá y de Israel.

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they [are] written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, [and] in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

33 Ezequías reposó con sus antepasados, y lo sepultaron en el sector superior de los sepulcros de los descendientes de David. Todo Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén le rindieron honores en su muerte. Su hijo Manasés reinó en su lugar.

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chief of the sepulchers of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
